2nd ACM Experiences: seminars at ground level in Seville, Bilbao and Barcelona

27 January, 2015

In view of the success of the first event of this type, the ACM Experiences: seminars at ground level are being held for the second time. The activities focus on cooperation and social responsibility. The sessions consist of practical, out of class activities, for students from the three univerisities. The purpose is to provide students with a new life experience. This second round of seminars will be held in February, March and July; in Bilbao, Seville and Barcelona respectively.

Bilbao: “Intervention for the social insertion of people at risk of social exclusion, Invisible borders.”

The first activity, “Invisible borders” will run from 27 February to 1 March in Bilbao. It is based on living together and sharing diversity. Young people of different religions in search of a common denominator and commitment: citizenship, and inclusive rather than exclusive citizenship.

A group of 20 young people, some of whom have been invited to take part by the Universities, and others who are young immigrants on the Gauenan project, will live together in hostals prepared for this purpose.

Activities will be based on encounters to meet each other and experience personal contrasts within the group, debates and positions regarding the borders that have to do with migration, citizenship and diversity. Experts will also take part, as well as other people who have had the personal experience of migration and diversity.

Seville: “Learning communities: a social and education transformation model”

The second activity, “Learning communities: a social and education transformation model” will be held from 12 to 14 March, in Dos Hermanas, Seville.  Participants will visit the CEIP Ibarburu in Dos Hermanas (attended by gypsy children from a marginal area) to learn about and share experiences at the school. This public school has fully committed to making education a tool for social transformation.

Learning Communities is a project based on a set of successful actions aimed at social and education transformation. This education model is in line with international scientific theories that highlight two key factors for learning in today’s world: interaction and community participation.

Barcelona: “Poor and Excluded: shelter, legal complaint, action concerning the causes and awareness-raising and political implications”

The third activity, “Poor and Excluded: shelter, legal complaint, action concerning the causes and awareness-raising and political implications”, which will be held from 6 to 9 July, will examine in depth the work of awareness-raising, care or the poor and excluded and the social transformation carried out by two deeply rooted entities in and around Barcelona, the Vinya Foundation and the Arrels Foundation.

This activity will enable students to know the situation of the homeless first hand and also to understand the processes and situations that lead to social exclusion. They will appreciate how awareness and social involvement cannot only help these individuals but also work to prevent the social dualisation that fragments our socieities.
