Brief description
This research group in Constitutional Law and Political Science was created with the objective of making use of the synergies produced by combining both fields which have historically been united in curricula and which cannot be understood one without the other. The group consists of faculty from both Law School areas carrying out research for years in the political and legal-constitutional areas. The aim is to formalise a structure enabling researchers to further existing studies while opening new lines of research to better respond to the complex and constantly changing social and political realities which are the essential focus of interest of both fields of knowledge. Amongst these, the European integration process stands out as an important driver of change in both disciplines. Also worth noting are the new challenges regarding state territorial structures as a result of change towards asymmetric federalism represented by the new Autonomous Community structure in Spain. To respond to questions regarding the future, we cannot eschew the historical basis of our constitutionalism, exploring especially the history of political thought as well as a rigorous analysis of comparative Law. Also receiving attention are the general theory on rights and freedoms, especially as regards protecting the rights of minors, the questions arising from the new field of Health Law within legal sciences, the implications of bioethics in the world of Law, the problems stemming from the crisis in political representation, and the new electronic means of democratic expression.
