Conference: “American Film Studies and American Film History: What the Past Can Teach Us About Present”

Jacqueline ReichOn Thursday, October 17th, at 6:00 pm. we’ll be having the inaugural conference of the School’s 2013-2014 University Masters. This year the inaugural lecture will be delivered by Ms. Jacqueline Reich, Dean of the Media and Communications department at Fordham University in New York.

The speech is entitled “American Film Studies and American Film History: What the Past Can Teach Us About Present”. It will take place in the School’s Auditorium (Valldonzella, 12). This event is open to everyone.

Born in New York, Jacqueline Reich has a degree in Romance Languages from Dartmouth, a Ph.D. in Italian from the University of California at Berkeley and has over 18 years of experience teaching about the cinema at Stony Brook University. At Fordham University, she also teaches Introduction to Film, Historyand Theory of Cinema, and Italian Cinema.

Specialized in the study of the relationship between male stars and the Italian cinema, she has published three monographs: “Beyond the Latin Lover: Marcello Mastroianni, Masculinity, and Italian Cinema” (Bloomington: Indiana UP, 2004); “The Silent Maciste Films of Italian Cinema” (Bloomington: Indiana UP, Forthcoming 2014), and “Divismo maschile all’italiana” (Male Stardom, Italian Style) (Forthcoming, Il Castoro). In addition, she has given numerous conferences.

She is also co-editor of “Re-viewing Fascism: Italian Cinema, 1922-1942” (Bloomington: Indiana UP, 2002) and is responsible for the book series New Directions in National Cinemas for Indiana University Press.
